When I was younger, I was in a band. We played a few gigs and sang songs of rebellion and resistance. At the end of the day, we went home and slept easy without fear of retribution for those simple actions. For B13A, self expression does not come so lightly.
Black 13 Angelz (www.black13angelz.com/) is the premier Metal-Core band in Kuwait. They are the major driving force behind the underground live music scene here, and they have been to jail for nothing more then playing instruments publicly and singing songs about expired relationships. Their rebellion is not one of shock or awe. They do not express the vulgarity of G.G. Allen or the governmental contempt of the Sex Pistols. They simply play songs about heartache and other trials and tribulations of young life, but their home country does not approve. In fact, they have been persecuted and labeled as devil worshipers for wearing black eyeliner and long hair.
In an age when western youth rebellion has arrived at the point of cliché, it is easy to overlook the youth of the world that are still fighting for their right to express themselves. Their clothes and their haircuts may look familiar, but the spirit of these young men is as unique as the underground scene they cultivate.
